The community of Brakpan in Gauteng is urged to assist in locating Anke Meyer, a 16-year-old girl who has been reported missing since Tuesday, 22 July 2025, at approximately 07:30 am.
Anke, a Grade 11 learner at Hoërskool Die Anker, was last seen in her school uniform and was reportedly in the Brakpan area at the time of her disappearance. Her phone, which is normally always on, has been switched off, and there has been no contact or trace of her since that morning.
The missing teenager is described as having a medium build, with brown hair and brown eyes, standing approximately 1.65 metres tall and weighing around 54 kilograms. She was wearing her Hoërskool Die Anker high school uniform when last seen.

The case has been reported to the Brakpan Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) and is being investigated by Constable Mholamonyane. The SAC Community Crime Watch (SACCW) is also actively assisting in the search.

Anke Meyer’s Family Heartfelt Plea
Anke Meyer’s family is deeply distressed and worried about her sudden disappearance. Her mother shared the following message with the public:
“Good evening, I urgently need help. Our daughter Anke Meyer, in Anker Grade 11 G, is not at home yet. Her phone, which is always on, is off. We cannot get hold of her at all. Please, if anyone knows where she is, we are incredibly worried. Let myself, her mother, know on 061 280 5683, or her father on 084 378 6953, or just let her contact us, please.”
Families of missing children often face sleepless nights, financial strain during searches, and emotional exhaustion. Experts advise offering support, even just by sharing the poster or sending comforting messages.
Community Response and Involvement
Since Anke’s disappearance, the Brakpan and Gauteng communities have shown concern. Various community policing forums (CPFs), WhatsApp neighbourhood groups, and Missing Person South Africa platforms have been circulating her image in hopes of generating leads.
“The community response has been strong, but we still need that one person who may have seen her to come forward,” said a community member.
Teenagers and Disappearances in South Africa
Unfortunately, stories like Anke’s are becoming all too common. According to SAPS, hundreds of children and teens are reported missing each year in South Africa. While some are found quickly, others remain missing for months or even years.
Many cases involve school children who vanish after leaving home or school, sometimes due to abduction, peer pressure, online influence, or personal stress.
That’s why awareness and immediate public involvement are crucial in the first 24 to 72 hours after a child goes missing.
Safety Tips for Parents and Guardians:
As disappearances of schoolchildren continue to rise in South Africa, families are reminded to:
- Always confirm when your child arrives at school or home.
- Use location-sharing apps where possible.
- Ensure emergency contacts are saved in children’s phones.
- Report a missing person immediately – there is no waiting period to open a case.
