A Mother Vanishes Without a Trace in Ga-Mogano
The quiet village of Ga-Mogano in Molepo, Limpopo, has been gripped by fear and uncertainty since the mysterious disappearance of 38-year-old Lorna Raesibe Modiba, a beloved member of the community. Lorna was last seen on Thursday, 6 June 2025, leaving her home in her vehicle, only for the car to be discovered abandoned in nearby bushes hours later.
Her sudden disappearance has left her family devastated and the entire Mankweng policing area on edge.
“She Just Drove Off, and We Never Heard From Her Again”

According to close relatives, Lorna did not express any signs of distress before she vanished.
“She greeted everyone as usual, got in her car, and said she’d be back shortly. That was the last we saw of her,” said a family member who asked not to be named.
Her cousin, Lerato Modiba, added: “Lorna is a warm-hearted person, a loving mother. She wouldn’t just leave without saying something.”
Police have since confirmed that her vehicle was located in a bushy area not far from her home. Warrant Officer Ramakgolo, who is leading the investigation, told Missing Person South Africa:
“We’ve conducted searches in all the places she was known to frequent. We are now appealing to the public for any information that could assist in bringing her home.”

A Community in Limbo: The Psychological Toll of Disappearances
Lorna’s disappearance is not an isolated incident in South Africa. According to Missing Children South Africa, a child or adult goes missing every five hours in the country. The trauma left behind is not only emotional but also psychological for the families and communities left in limbo.
Community leader, Pastor Kgaugelo Mphahlele, emphasized the emotional strain:
“It’s not just about the missing person. It’s about those left behind. Every sunrise without Lorna is a reminder that we are not safe until she is found.”
What Could Have Happened? And How Can We Stay Safe?
While police have not released any further details surrounding the vehicle or its condition, they are not ruling anything out. Authorities remain hopeful that a witness or someone with critical information will come forward.
This heartbreaking case is also a stark reminder for all South Africans to prioritize personal safety:
