The community of Vukuzakhe in Volksrust, Mpumalanga, is in mourning after the tragic death of missing 11-year-old Minky Gule, who went missing on Saturday morning and was later found murdered.
Minky was last seen at around 08:00 am on Saturday, 16 August 2025, when she was reportedly sent by a neighbour to buy electricity. Her parents had not given permission for her to leave home, and when she did not return, the family and community began searching.

Despite desperate efforts, hopes were crushed when her body was discovered last night, dumped in a veld, not far from where searchers had been looking.
At the time she went missing, Minky was dressed in a grey and white tie-dye long-sleeved top with “New York 1982” and a large “99” printed on the front, a black-and-white striped T-shirt underneath, and olive green tracksuit pants.
The discovery has left residents shocked and heartbroken. Many have expressed anger that such a young child could become a victim of such violence, while others are questioning how children can be better protected in the community.
