On the afternoon of Tuesday, 3 June 2025, a typical day turned into every parent’s worst nightmare in the quiet community of Vervadien, Mkhondo. A four-year-old girl, full of life, laughter, and innocence, disappeared shortly after returning from her local crèche. Less than 24 hours later, she was found dead in an unoccupied room just meters from home.

Her name has not yet been released to the public, out of respect for the family, but the pain felt by her loved ones reverberates through the entire community.
“She said she was going to play, like she always does, she was only 4-years-old,” said a tearful aunt during an interview with Ezomphakathi Newspaper.
“We never imagined that would be the last time we’d see her alive.”

The Mkhondo SAPS has taken over the investigation and is treating the case as a priority.
“We are working with forensic experts and child protection units,” said Mkhondo police spokesperson.
