What began as a desperate search for a young woman from Parkwood has ended in tragedy, sending shockwaves through the community.
Mmaditsela Violet Sebati, a 26-year-old from Parkwood, Gauteng, was last seen on Wednesday when she left home to watch a match between Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC. According to her family, Violet had been picked up by a male friend who often transported her to places. Disturbingly, the family says they do not have his contact details—only that he was “the guy who usually takes her around.”

When Violet never returned home, her family raised the alarm, sparking appeals on social media and pleas for assistance from the public.

The case took a chilling turn on Monday, 1 September 2025, when the family received a call from an unknown person claiming to know Violet’s whereabouts. They immediately passed the number on to police investigators.
But the following day, Tuesday, 2 September 2025, the Sebati family received the devastating call no family ever wants to hear. They were summoned to Germiston Mortuary to identify a body. With heavy hearts, they confirmed that it was indeed Violet.

Parkwood police have not yet released further details about the circumstances surrounding her death. The cause of death is still under investigation, leaving the family and community with many unanswered questions.
For Violet’s father, John Sebati, and uncle, Mathibedi Sebati, the past week has been a nightmare of uncertainty, fear, and now grief. Community members who had rallied around the family are expressing their shock and anger, calling for justice and answers.
