Delft — The search for 31-year-old Simon Sylvester, who was reported missing last month, has ended in tragedy after his body was discovered in the mortuary at Salt River.
Simon was last seen on Wednesday, 9 July 2025, in the evening after leaving his home in Delft around 6 PM. According to his wife, Caroline Booysen, he left while intoxicated and upset, and never returned home.
In a heartbreaking update, Caroline confirmed that police informed her Simon had died after being struck by a vehicle in what appears to be a hit-and-run incident. His body had reportedly been lying in the Salt River mortuary for approximately a week before the family was notified.
“They found his body and someone drove him over and left him there. We don’t know exactly when or where, but they said it was somewhere in Delft. Unfortunately, he passed away and has been in the mortuary for a week now,” Caroline shared.

Rest in Peace, Simon Sylvester
The news has left the family and community in shock, with many questioning why it took so long for the family to be informed. The incident raises concerns about communication between authorities and loved ones in missing person cases.
Police have not yet released full details about the exact location or circumstances of his death. The investigation into the hit-and-run is ongoing.
Caroline expressed her gratitude to everyone who shared Simon’s missing person post and offered support during the search.
The Delft community has called for justice and for the perpetrator responsible for Simon’s death to be found and held accountable.
