In a tense and emotionally charged bail hearing held at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court, Tiffany Meek—mother of the late 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek—addressed the court through her lawyer in a heartfelt affidavit, arguing why she should be granted bail.
Tiffany Meek stated clearly:
“I have already been tried, found guilty, and sentenced by the public—without them even knowing the full story.”
She described the emotional toll of losing her son while being the central figure in a deeply scrutinized murder investigation. According to Meek, social media judgment and media narratives have turned public sentiment against her, long before any verdict has been reached in a court of law.
Despite acknowledging that she had known she was a suspect as early as May 2025, Meek emphasized she never attempted to flee or evade arrest. She claimed she stayed in contact with her legal counsel and made herself available to law enforcement if needed. Her legal team submitted letters and records showing consistent communication with police officials and attempts to cooperate fully.
In one letter addressed to the Provincial Commissioner, her attorneys stated that the family wished to limit direct police contact and have all communication routed through them, citing interference by social media influencers seeking publicity.

Therapy and Trauma Support For Tiffany
Tiffany also revealed that she has been receiving trauma counseling from a Methodist Church bishop since May 30. The bishop confirmed in writing that during their sessions, he called Major General Kekana—on speakerphone—to inquire about the case. Kekana reportedly said that the investigation was at an advanced stage and that Tiffany and her close family were considered suspects.
Nevertheless, the bishop supported Tiffany’s claim that she never showed signs of wanting to escape and continued attending therapy sessions and work while grappling with “substantial grief.”
Allegations of Abuse Disputed
One of the most controversial aspects of the case is the alleged history of abuse reported at Jayden-Lee’s school. While some sources suggest the child had spoken of neglect and showed visible signs of mistreatment, a recent statement reportedly from the Royal College, where Jayden-Lee attended, denies any knowledge of abuse.
An unnamed school official claimed:
“Jayden never looked like he was abused. He didn’t come to school hungry or with bruises.”
The Gauteng Department of Education has since launched an inquiry and is expected to issue an official statement.

What the State Must Still Prove
At the time of writing, the State has not yet responded with its arguments against bail. Meek’s affidavit indicated that her boyfriend and Jayden-Lee’s biological father had also been questioned and had their devices searched by the Pretoria Cyber Crimes Unit. Still, no formal charges were laid against them.
Awaiting the Court’s Decision
The court is expected to hear the State’s reply in the upcoming session, after which a ruling on Tiffany Meek’s bail application will be made. Her supporters call for a fair legal process, while public sentiment—fueled by social media—remains divided and volatile.
