In a shocking twist that has left South Africans reeling, Tiffany Meek, the mother of 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek, who was brutally murdered in Fleurhof, Johannesburg, has been arrested and charged with his murder, just months after publicly blaming police for failing her child.
Before her arrest, Tiffany had given a heart-wrenching interview on eNCA, expressing her frustration with how authorities handled Jayden-Lee’s disappearance.
“At the back of my mind, I always thought he was going to return home. It didn’t hit me until I received the phone call the next day to say: ‘Come home. Your child has been found.’”
She told reporters she had stayed at her mother’s home the night Jayden disappeared, claiming she was too distraught to be alone.
“The police’s handling of the investigation has been garbage, sorry for my language,” she said during the interview.
She slammed police for allegedly failing to act urgently, stating they didn’t dispatch search teams quickly and instead questioned her about the boy’s father and grandfather.
“This is a child. He’s under 13 years old and you didn’t dispatch anybody. You didn’t search the complex. What were you waiting for?”
Yet, just weeks later, that very same mother is the one now facing murder charges in her son’s tragic death.
Arrest and Court Appearance

Tiffany Meek was arrested by Florida detectives, with support from the Gauteng Provincial Investigative Unit. She appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on 14 July 2025, where she was formally charged with murder. She is expected to return to court on 18 July 2025 to apply for bail.
A Nation in Shock
The case has triggered an emotional wave of disbelief and anger across the country. Many South Africans who had initially sympathized with Tiffany are now left grappling with betrayal.
“She cried with us, she stood next to us, she blamed the police — and now we find out she’s the one?” said one Fleurhof resident who attended the court proceedings.
The community is demanding justice for Jayden-Lee, with calls for the harshest sentence possible if Tiffany is found guilty.
