The South African Police Service (SAPS) has intensified its investigation into the tragic murder of 30-year-old Olorato Mongale, adding a third suspect, Bongani Mthimkhulu, to the list of wanted individuals in the high-profile case that has shocked the nation.

This latest development comes as police released updated photographs of two of the wanted suspects: Philangenkosi Sibongokuhle Makhanya and Fezile Ngubane. The third man, Mthimkhulu, is reportedly a friend of Makhanya and was captured wearing a white top in one of the circulated images.
“The investigation has reached a critical and sensitive stage. We urge the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the arrest of these suspects,” SAPS officials said.
Yesterday, a multidisciplinary SAPS team, including members of the National Crime Intelligence Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Task Team, and Durban Metro Police K-9 Unit, successfully seized the white VW Polo believed to have been used in Mongale’s murder. The vehicle was discovered at a panel beater workshop in Phoenix, Durban.
Forensic investigators confirmed that traces of blood were found inside the car. The vehicle’s registered owner, believed to be an elderly man, has since been arrested.
The investigation initially led officers to a lodge in Kew, Johannesburg, where suspects had allegedly booked a room. From there, intelligence guided the team to KwaMashu, Durban, where one of the suspects resided. The trail eventually led to the vehicle’s discovery.
Despite the progress, Ngubane, Makhanya, and now Mthimkhulu remain at large. Police have described the trio as dangerous, warning members of the public not to approach them under any circumstances.
Anyone who sees the suspects or has information on their whereabouts is urged to contact Brigadier Nama at 082 778 9035.
The National Commissioner of the SAPS, General Fannie Masemola, has expressed gratitude to all units and civilians assisting in the case, including Gauteng Provincial Investigation Unit, DPCI KZN Tracking Team, and private security forces.
“We thank victims who’ve come forward and the public for calling in with information. This kind of cooperation is critical in ensuring justice is served,” he added.
The murder of Olorato Mongale has ignited widespread outrage on social media, with many South Africans demanding faster justice and improved safety measures for women. The SAPS continues to ask the public to distribute the suspects’ photos far and wide in the hopes of a swift arrest.
