Authorities have confirmed that the suspects linked to the brutal murder of 30-year-old Olorato Mongale are allegedly part of a larger criminal syndicate that preys on unsuspecting women, particularly those approached in shopping malls.

Mongale’s lifeless body was discovered on a Sunday, just hours after she left for what was supposed to be a first date with a man driving a white VW Polo. The tragic encounter has now been connected to an organized group that allegedly uses romance as a trap to lure women before robbing or harming them.
The Polo used in the crime was later recovered by police at a panel beater workshop in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal. Forensic teams discovered traces of blood inside the vehicle, further confirming its involvement in the crime.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, three suspects are currently wanted in connection with Mongale’s murder. An elderly man, identified as the father of one of the suspects and registered owner of the vehicle, has been taken into custody.
Mathe revealed that investigators are now examining potential links to two similar murder cases reported in Sandton, raising concerns that Mongale’s murder may not have been an isolated incident; it might have been part of the syndicate’s moves.
“We are investigating what appears to be a well-organized syndicate targeting young women,” said Mathe. “The suspects allegedly frequent malls, where they charm and befriend women, luring them under the guise of a romantic connection. Once the victim agrees to meet, they are robbed — and in some tragic instances, murdered.”
The SAPS has called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior, especially involving individuals using shopping malls or dating apps to initiate contact with women.
Police continue to search for the three suspects believed to have played key roles in Mongale’s death, including Philangenkosi Sibongokuhle Makhanya, Fezile Ngubane, and Bongani Mthimkhulu. Their photographs have been widely circulated, and the public is urged not to approach them, as they are considered dangerous.
