A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the Zimbabwean community in Limpopo, South Africa, after two men — believed to be brothers from Bikita, Chiremwaremwa area in Masvingo — died under shocking circumstances within days of each other.
The first victim, only known as Farai, reportedly drowned last Thursday in Thohoyandou. He had recently bought a new phone, and unfortunately, it only had one saved contact. No family numbers, no photos, and no clear information about his surname were available.
Community members say Farai was a quiet man who kept to himself but was always seen with one friend — believed to be his older brother or close relative. After Farai’s drowning, Zimbabweans in the area began searching for this friend to help identify and inform the family.
But the search ended in even more devastation.
The same man was later found dead, reportedly a victim of mob justice. He was accused of stealing and allegedly beaten by members of the community. His body was discovered a few days later, bringing the count to two lives lost, both without their family ever being notified.
💬 No Way to Inform the Family
The tragedy has created a difficult situation:
“We don’t even know their full names. No one has contact details for their families in Zimbabwe. It’s painful,” said one Zimbabwean resident in Thohoyandou.
The only clue is that they both came from the Bikita-Chiremwaremwa area in Masvingo Province. Without identification or contacts, their bodies risk going unclaimed and possibly being buried as unidentified persons.
Community Appeal for Help
Zimbabweans in South Africa are now appealing to the public — especially those from Masvingo, Bikita, and Chiremwaremwa — to come forward if they know any families with missing relatives who might have been in Limpopo recently.

⚠️ Mob Justice in South Africa Remains a Risk
Mob justice continues to claim the lives of many, especially among foreign nationals in South Africa. Allegations of crime often lead to instant violence, without formal investigations or police involvement.
Community leaders are urging both Zimbabweans and South Africans to seek legal justice instead of taking the law into their own hands.
