What Happened to Asanda Mlobeli?

The family of Asanda Mlobeli, a 19-year-old from Ext 2, Chesterville, is pleading with the public for help after she went missing on May 24, 2025.
Asanda was reportedly last seen leaving her home and getting into a black Hyundai. Her sister, Sbongile Mlobeli, says the disappearance happened while she was at work.
“She took some of her things and left. Her phone was switched off around the same time. We reported her missing at Cato Manor Police Station, but there hasn’t been much feedback since,” said Sbongile.
The family believes Asanda may be with an older man she was previously involved with. However, they remain uncertain.

Clarifying the Connection: Who Is the Indian Man?
A 49-year-old indian man reportedly involved in vehicle registration services, has been mentioned by the family as someone Asanda was in contact with before her disappearance.
In the interest of transparency and balanced reporting, Missing Person South Africa reached out to the infian mail for comment.
He denied being with Asanda, stating that he is currently in Kempton Park, Gauteng.
However, at this stage, there is no verified evidence to confirm whether he is involved in Asanda’s disappearance — or not.
The family shared his name in the hope that anyone with additional information may come forward to help.

Eyewitness Account: A Seemingly Ordinary Departure
A neighbor in Chesterville recalls seeing Asanda leave that day.
“She walked quickly and didn’t say anything. I saw her getting into a black car. I didn’t think anything of it at the time,” the neighbor shared.
Since then, no one in the family has heard from her. The absence of communication has raised serious concerns.
Broader Context: Young Women and Vulnerability
Asanda’s disappearance highlights an issue that many families face across the country—young women going missing under unclear circumstances. According to the South African Police Service, thousands of people are reported missing annually. While some are found safe, others are never accounted for.
“We often see cases where relationships or family disagreements play a role in disappearances, and not all are criminal in nature,” explains Nomusa Dlamini, a community social worker. “But until someone is located, families live in fear.”
This uncertainty leaves families emotionally and mentally drained, caught between hope and helplessness.
Tips for Families: Staying Safe and Aware
Here are a few practical steps families can take to reduce vulnerability and ensure safety:
- Keep open and regular communication with young family members, especially teenagers.
- Be aware of relationships, particularly with significantly older individuals.
- Discuss healthy relationship boundaries and emotional safety.

Asanda’s family continues to search and hope. They are not alone—many families across South Africa face similar uncertainty.
“We just want to know she’s safe,” says Sbongile quietly. “Even if she doesn’t want to come home yet—just to know she’s okay would mean the world.”
