A Community in Shock After Local Woman Vanishes on Shopping Trip
The Wyebank community near Pinetown in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, has been shaken by the sudden disappearance of 36-year-old Gugu Mthiyane, a mother of four who went missing earlier this month. Gugu was last seen on Monday, 1 September 2025, when she left home to do shopping in Pinetown around midday. She never returned.
Her family describes her as light in complexion, tall, and well known in the Zamokuhle area of Wyebank, which sits between Pinetown, New Germany, and Clermont.

A Mother Who Never Came Home
For her family, Gugu’s absence has been nothing short of devastating. Her family member shared pain in a message to Missing Persons South Africa:
“Gugu is a responsible mother. She loves her children deeply, and for her to leave without saying anything is not like her. We are pleading with anyone who may have seen her to come forward.”
Her children have been left asking questions the family struggles to answer.

A close neighbor recalled seeing her leave that day:
“She was in good spirits. She even greeted me and said she was rushing to Pinetown. We never thought it would be the last time we saw her.”
Authorities and Community Efforts
Police in Pinetown have been alerted, and a missing person case has been opened. Community groups have also joined hands with the family, distributing posters across Durban and sharing her information on several platforms. Despite these efforts, no solid leads have emerged.
An officer familiar with the case emphasized the importance of public involvement:
“Every detail counts. Even the smallest piece of information can help us trace her movements and bring her back safely.”
