How the Body Was Discovered in the Namahadi River
According to police, emergency services were called to the Namahadi River near the Clubview area after a concerned community member reported seeing a body floating in the water.
Members of the Phuthaditjhaba Police Search and Rescue Unit responded to the scene together with officials from the Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality Fire and Rescue Services.
The teams worked together to recover the body from the river and secure the area for further investigation.
Discoveries of this nature often require specialised recovery procedures, particularly when a body has been submerged in water. Investigators must carefully examine the scene and collect any evidence that could assist in determining the circumstances surrounding the death.
The recovery operation drew the attention of residents, with police quickly moving to preserve the scene while detectives began their preliminary investigation.
What Police Have Confirmed About the Victim
Police have confirmed that the deceased is an adult male whose identity remains unknown.
Investigators revealed that the body had been wrapped in a blanket and tied to a stone using wire before being dumped in the river.
The condition of the body has complicated efforts to gather immediate answers. Authorities said the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition, making it difficult to establish whether the victim had suffered any visible injuries before his death.
As a result, further forensic examinations will be required to help determine the cause of death and provide investigators with additional information about the victim.
At this stage, police have not disclosed how long the body may have been in the river, and no missing person reports have yet been publicly linked to the case.

Following the discovery, police officially opened a murder case, and detectives have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
Investigators will now focus on several key areas, including identifying the deceased, establishing where he may have come from, and determining who may have been involved in his death.
The fact that the body was allegedly wrapped in a blanket and secured to a stone before being placed in the river forms an important part of the investigation. Detectives will examine all available evidence and await forensic findings that could help build a clearer picture of what happened.
Cases involving unidentified victims can often take time to solve, particularly when investigators must first establish the identity of the deceased before tracing relatives, associates, or potential witnesses.
