Three suspects identified by police as Lesotho nationals have been arrested in connection with the mass shooting at Jumpers Informal Settlement in Gauteng that left 13 people dead and 14 others injured earlier this month.
The arrests were made on 23 June 2026 following an intensive investigation led by a multi-disciplinary law enforcement team. The suspects, aged 26, 32, and 36, are expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on 25 June 2026 on charges of murder and attempted murder.
The breakthrough marks a significant development in a case that shocked communities across Gauteng and drew widespread public attention due to the high number of casualties.
What Happened During the Jumpers’ Informal Settlement Mass Shooting
The mass shooting occurred on 9 June 2026 at Jumpers Informal Settlement, one of the deadliest incidents reported in Gauteng this year.
According to police, 13 people were killed during the attack, while 14 others sustained injuries. The incident prompted an immediate response from SAPS and led to a large-scale investigation aimed at identifying and arresting those responsible.
The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, directed additional resources toward the investigation following the shooting. Authorities described the incident as a serious and violent crime that required the involvement of specialised units.
The scale of the attack raised concerns about public safety and violence within vulnerable communities, with residents seeking answers and justice for those affected.
While police have confirmed the number of victims, investigators have not publicly disclosed further details regarding the motive for the shooting. Authorities have continued to focus on gathering evidence and tracing all individuals believed to have been involved.
