Sixty-one-year-old Dr Rega Mohammed Tavangar, an employee at Mokopane Hospital in Limpopo, has been reported missing after he was last seen by his partner in Mokopane on the evening of 27 August 2026.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is appealing to the public for information that could help locate the doctor. His disappearance has raised concern after he stopped communicating with his partner and later failed to report for duty at the hospital.

What happened to Dr Rega Mohammed Tavangar in Mokopane?
According to police, Dr Tavangar was last seen at approximately 18:00 on 27 August 2026, when he reportedly dropped his partner off at her rented room on Voortrekker Street in Mokopane.
He was reportedly travelling in a white Landwind motor vehicle with registration number KV3VM GP.
At the time he was last seen, Dr Tavangar was wearing grey jeans, black sandals and a brown shirt.
The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain under investigation. SAPS has not provided any information indicating what may have happened to him after he dropped his partner off.
His last known movements are now an important part of the police investigation as authorities work to establish where he may have gone and when contact with him was lost.

Dr Tavangar’s last communication and missing-person details
During the early hours of 28 August, at approximately midnight, Dr Tavangar’s partner reportedly received a payment from him into her bank account.
At about 06:00 that morning, she contacted him regarding her wallet, which she believed she had left inside his vehicle.
According to the information provided to police, Dr Tavangar told her that he would send the wallet with her daughter, who was staying with him at the Mokopane Hospital Residence.
No further communication was reportedly received from Dr Tavangar after that conversation.
Attempts to contact him were unsuccessful, with his cellphones reportedly switched off.
Dr Tavangar was formally reported missing, and the matter is being investigated by Mahwelereng SAPS.
For members of the public trying to identify him, SAPS describes him as a 61-year-old man who was last seen in Mokopane, Limpopo, on 27 August 2026. His last known clothing was grey jeans, black sandals and a brown shirt. His vehicle is a white Landwind with registration KV3VM GP.

Mokopane Hospital doctor fails to report for duty
Concern about Dr Tavangar’s whereabouts continued after Mokopane Hospital reportedly made enquiries on 3 September 2026, when he failed to report for duty.
The development added to concerns about his disappearance because he had not been reached by phone and had reportedly stopped communicating with his partner.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and are seeking information from anyone who may have seen Dr Tavangar, his vehicle, or may know anything about his movements since he was last seen.
At this stage, there is no further confirmed information from SAPS about his whereabouts.
