Roodepoort, Gauteng — The case of 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek, who was brutally murdered in Fleurhof in May 2025, has taken a shocking turn as his mother, Tiffany Meek, appeared in court this week facing charges of murder.
Jayden-Lee, a Grade 5 learner and beloved member of the Fleurhof community, was reported missing by Tiffany in May, only to be found dead the following morning in the stairwell of their apartment complex. He was discovered half-naked and unconscious, just metres away from their front door.
Doctors at Discovery Hospital later confirmed that the boy had already succumbed to his injuries before arrival.

Court Appearance: Mother in the Dock
On Monday, 14 July 2025, the 31-year-old mother was formally charged in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court. She is expected to apply for bail on 18 July, but the public reaction has been swift and intense, with many South Africans demanding no bail and a life sentence if found guilty.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that Tiffany Meek was arrested after a meticulous investigation led by Florida detectives and supported by the Provincial Investigative Unit and Tracking Team.

Outrage and Heartbreak Across South Africa
The news has rocked communities across the country, especially those who had participated in searches, vigils, and prayers when Jayden first went missing.
“He didn’t deserve to die like that. He was failed,” said one tearful resident at the courthouse.
“We are supposed to protect our kids. Instead, they are dying in their homes,” another parent said.
Negligence and Delayed Response Criticised
Community leaders previously raised concerns about the slow response by police, alleging that residents were the first to begin searching for the boy, long before forensic teams arrived.
Activist Althea Cluff, who helped lead awareness campaigns, called the arrest a bittersweet moment:
“It’s painful because now we know — someone so close to him did this. It breaks us all over again.”
Tiffany Meek is currently in custody and expected back in court on 18 July 2025 for her bail hearing. Meanwhile, the community and family of Jayden-Lee are calling for the harshest punishment possible.
