Macassar, Western Cape – It has been more than a month since 30-year-old DUREEN TASNEEM MONDGE disappeared from her home in Macassar Village. But for her heartbroken family, time has only made the silence more unbearable—and the rumours more terrifying.

Dureen, who is considered vulnerable due to having a disability in one leg, was last seen around 8:00 PM on April 24, 2025, leaving her home with an unknown African male in a silver VW Polo Vivo with CA registration plates. She said she was heading to Brackenfell—but never came back.

Since then, no one has heard from her. No calls. No messages. Just a deepening void, and whispers of a tragedy too awful to confirm.

“They Say She Was Murdered—But We Don’t Know”

Speaking to Missing Person South Africa, Greeneyes Jumo, who has been helping the family through this ordeal, expressed the heavy uncertainty clouding the search for Dureen.

“Hi, we are also trying to find my sister. Stories are going around that she died, but we don’t know if it’s true,” she said. “Apparently, she was raped and murdered near Gordon High School—but again, we don’t know if that’s real. A lady came today and said she was murdered, but she didn’t say when.”

The family remains torn between hope and dread, not knowing whether to prepare for Dureen’s return or mourn her loss.

Vulnerable, Missing, and Forgotten?

Dureen’s case is particularly concerning because of her physical disability. Family members describe her as tall, slim, with brown eyes, short black hair, and a birthmark on her right thigh. On the day she disappeared, she was wearing black leggings and a khaki T-shirt.

Her last-known companion remains unidentified. Authorities confirm that the case was registered under OB/CAS/CIRC 2025M1674 on 01 May 2025.

Despite the serious nature of her disappearance, some community members fear her case is not getting the attention it deserves.

“She’s vulnerable, and she trusted the wrong person,” said a neighbour who asked not to be named. “Now everyone is talking like she’s gone, but no one has shown us proof. We need answers.”

The case is also being handled with the support of The Pink Ladies Organization, a respected platform for missing persons in South Africa. Dureen’s missing person poster has been widely shared on social media through their efforts, helping to keep her story in the public eye.

“We don’t give up,” said a representative from the Pink Ladies. “Even when the rumours start flying, we focus on facts, and we keep searching.”

Family Pleads for Compassion and Clarity

While speculation swirls around her disappearance, Dureen’s family is begging for the public’s help—not for gossip or guesswork, but for concrete information.

“If you know anything, anything at all—please come forward,” said Greeneyes. “We just want to know if she’s alive. If something happened to her, we need to know the truth so we can grieve properly.”
