A Family Torn Apart as the Manhunt Intensifies
Developments in the murder investigation of 30-year-old Olorato Mongale, the mother and father of one of the wanted suspects, have been taken into police custody. The case, which has already shocked the nation, continues to unravel disturbing layers, now reaching into the very homes of those closest to the suspects.
Olorato’s tragic death has not only left her loved ones devastated, but it has also spotlighted a larger criminal operation targeting vulnerable women under the guise of romance. Now, the justice system is tightening its net—not just around the alleged perpetrators, but also those accused of helping them escape it like the mother.

Mother Accused of Aiding Fugitive Son’s Escape
According to police reports, the mother of one suspect allegedly alerted her son that police were approaching their home in Inanda on Wednesday evening. By the time officers arrived, he had already vanished.
Police believe the warning from the mother enabled the suspect to evade arrest, undermining ongoing efforts to bring justice for Olorato. The suspect’s father, already in custody, is the registered owner of the VW Polo believed to have been used during the abduction and murder. That vehicle was later found at a panel beating workshop in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal, with blood traces confirmed inside.
“She Deserved So Much More” – Friends and Family Speak
Sinki Leshabane, a close family friend, shared emotional memories of Olorato:
“She was the light in every room. Her energy, her vibe… she lifted everyone. Losing her this way feels like losing a part of all of us.”
Olorato was known as a talented MC at local events and a positive force in her community. Her story has resonated with women across the country who now fear the growing threat posed by syndicates using malls and dating apps to prey on victims.

Police Appeal for Public Vigilance
Brigadier Athlenda Mathe of the SAPS confirmed that the case is part of a wider investigation into a syndicate suspected of robbing and murdering women, particularly through online platforms and public spaces like malls.
“We are dealing with something bigger than just one case. We believe there are multiple victims, and we’re asking for anyone with information to come forward.”
The arrest of both parents marks a significant turn in the investigation, demonstrating the seriousness with which SAPS is treating any form of interference in the case.
A Community Grieves, but Demands Justice
As more details emerge, communities across South Africa are not only grieving but demanding systemic change in how gender-based violence is tackled. The arrests raise urgent questions:
- How deep does this syndicate go?
- Who else might have helped the suspects avoid capture?
- And how many more women must suffer before decisive action is taken?
