Reuben Marsberg was reported missing after he left home on the evening of 26 November 2025. According to information available at the time, he had gone out to drop his brother off at his girlfriend’s residence. He did not return home, and attempts to contact him later that night were unsuccessful.
At that stage, there was no indication that Marsberg had travelled for work or intended to carry out any mechanical job. Those details only surfaced later, during the investigation, and were not known when the initial missing person report was filed.

As police began tracing Marsberg’s movements, the investigation expanded beyond Limpopo. During this process, information emerged suggesting that he may have travelled to KwaZulu-Natal for mechanical work. Authorities have not confirmed when this trip occurred or whether it was directly linked to his disappearance.
Police have since confirmed that a person of interest is being detained. Items connected to the case, including a boat, were recovered during the investigation. Human remains were also found, but investigators say these are believed to be older remains and are awaiting DNA testing. No official identification has been made.

Reuben Marsberg’s Mother Breaks Silence After Social Media Claims of Murder
Marsberg’s mother has spoken out after posts circulated on social media claiming that her son had been found murdered. She said those posts were shared without the family’s consent or confirmation from police.
“We have been flooded with calls and messages,” she said. “A post was put out without my or the police’s knowledge. Yes, the boat was found. There were older remains that still need DNA confirmation. A person of interest is being detained. Other than that, nothing else can be disclosed. We are still holding onto hope.”
The family has asked the public to avoid spreading unverified information and to allow investigators to complete their work.
