Zamdela, Free State – Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance in locating 50-year-old Xavier Makaai, who went missing earlier this month. The Zamdela detectives have launched a search after concerns arose when Mr. Makaai did not reach his intended destination in the Eastern Cape.

Last Known Whereabouts

According to his sister, Xavier left her home in Coalbrook section on Monday, 18 July 2025, at around 10:00, intending to travel to the Eastern Cape. She reported that she immediately reached out to the bus company he was expected to travel with, but they had no record of him boarding the bus. Likewise, his family members in the Eastern Cape confirmed that he never arrived.

“He always calls when he reaches safely, but this time, nothing,” said his sister. “We are worried and desperate for anyone who may have seen him.”

Xavier was last seen wearing a grey hoodie top, grey tracksuit pants, and white tekkies.

Detective Constable Nthabiseng Shwaeng confirmed that Zamdela police are actively investigating the disappearance.

“We are urging the public to come forward with any information, no matter how small it may seem,” said Detective Shwaeng. “Xavier’s safety is our top priority, and community involvement can make all the difference.”
